Production of wood-based panel from recycled wood resource: a literature review

Abstract This article presents and discusses the available studies on utilization of waste wood (WW) resource for wood-based panel production. The cited literature indicated that majority WW research was from Europe conducted mainly recycled material particleboard. In addition, particleboard presented as first option product manufactured wood. There a lack recycling plywood. Physical chemical contaminants fluctuated strongly between low- high-quality mixes depending their origins. Findings also noticed panels (e.g., particleboard) could be produced 100% WW. However, physical mechanical properties drop with high proportion content due to decrease in slenderness ratio increase contaminants. Moreover, formaldehyde emission Oriented Strand Board (OSB) particles increases when percentage increases. Contrary, amount decreases fiber fiberboards. Notably, composite products improved by applying high-tech sorting technologies, appropriate chipping techniques, pretreatment steps formaldehyde-free binders during handling production process.
